SCHENEVUS - Elizabeth R. (Betty) Norman, 96, passed away January 5, 2022 peacefully at her home with her family by her side.
She was born February 4, 1925 to Elizabeth O'Brien and Patrick Kavanaugh in New York City.
She graduated from Jamaica High School and Browns' Business College in Queens. Betty was a legal secretary in Manhattan before moving to Farmingdale, Long Island.
On June 17, 1950, Betty married John F. Norman at St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church in St. Albans, NY.
Betty moved from Farmingdale to Schenevus in 1962. Together with John, they ran Pee Wee's Diner in Warnerville from 1965-1970 and the Queen Bee in Oneonta from 1970-1973. Betty worked for Otsego County Children Protective Services for 15 years. After John's passing, she worked at Bassett Healthcare for 17 years.
Betty was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester and the Young at Hearts of Schenevus.
Betty is survived by her children, Mary Norman, John (Rose) Norman, Dr. Joseph (Joan) Norman, Patricia (Walter) Hogan, Elizabeth (Michael) Holt, Thomas (Theresa) Norman and Theresa (Philip) Mellor; 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Francis O'Toole of Camilus, NY and numerous nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by her loving husband John in 1986; a sister, Mary Kavanaugh and brothers, William Kavanaugh and Thomas Kavanaugh.
A private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
