Oneonta – Elizabeth A. Whitney, 95, passed away on February 20, 2024 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born August 15, 1928 in South Kortright, the daughter of Bruce and Jennie (Droiski) Slater.

Elizabeth graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School, Class of 1947.  She was a kitchen manager for Brooks' House of Bar-B-Q for close to 30 years.   She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, and Tri-County Dance and Social Club.  Elizabeth loved to dance and also play Bingo.

She is survived by her husband, A. Sherman Whitney; sister, Virginia Worden; daughter-in-law, Dolores Smith and sons, Peter and Joseph; step-children, Kenneth (Judy) Whitney, Karen (Rich) Smith and Keith (Anna) Whitney; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved pet dog, Happy.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis Smith; her son, Stanley Smith; and two sisters, Roseanna Slater and Beatrice Merritt.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m., May 4, 2024 at Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, officiating.
