SEBRING, Fla. - Ella T. Rutan, 88, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Sunny Hills Assisted Living Facility in Sebring, FL.
She was born June 17, 1920 in Oneonta, the daughter of George H. and Myrtle (Anderson) Terpenning.
She married Guilford C. Rutan on August 28, l964. He died March 29, l998.
Ella graduated from Oneonta High School in l937 and from Mildred Elley Business School, Albany, N.Y. in 1938. She worked for many years in Bresee's Department Store in the office before moving to Sarasota, FL. There she worked as a secretary for Stokes and Brown Agency until her retirement. She then moved to Sebring, FL.
Since November, 2006 she had been a resident of Sunny Hills, Sebring, FL.
Surviving are three nieces, Mrs. Pamela Osborn Smith, VA, Mrs. Diane Thoman, SC, and Mrs. Linda Gunn, PA and a nephew David Terpenning, VT , several cousins and a devoted friend, Maria Detelj.
She was predeceased by three brothers and their spouses, Gerald, Percy and George Terpenning.
A graveside service will be Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
