POUGHKEEPSIE – Beloved Friend and Grandmother - Elsie Mae Furman, 92, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie.



She was born April 23, 1919 in Roxbury, the daughter of Orley and Effie (Morse) Slauson.



She married Leslie Oliver Furman on May 31, 1942 in Roxbury. He predeceased her on January 21, 1978.



Elsie owned and operated the M&R Grocery in Schenevus, retiring in 1985.



While living in Schenevus, she was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Rebekah's and the order of the Eastern Star.



She is survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Furman, Kenneth Furman, Elizabeth Sears, Amy Furman-Cole, Carrie Furman, Megan Furman; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Furman, Andrew Furman, Justin Sears, Jacob Cole and Dale Cole; a brother, Vergil and his wife, Beverly Slauson; and several nieces and nephews.



She was predeceased by her son, Gilbert Furman; brothers, Grant, Marshall, Floyd, Marion, and Milton; and sisters, Bertha Cammer and Huldah Morse.



A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 3 pm at the Roxbury Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Dunlap, Lead Pastor of the Upper Catskill Larger Parish, officiating.



There will be no calling hours.
