EAST WORCESTER - Elsie Pochkar, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Bassett Medical Center.
Elsie was born on April 11, 1934, in Cobleskill, the daughter of Michael and Frances (Kaneg) Kodra.
She graduated from Cobleskill Central School in 1952. She married Frank Pochkar, Jr. on October 27, 1956. They settled on the family farm in East Worcester. For nearly forty years, they worked side by side and built a wonderful life together.
Elsie was a wonderful cook and was also known for her Slovenian baked goods. She enjoyed making potica and apple strudel, and there was hardly a meal without a pie for dessert. Elsie (Granny) loved her time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their athletic events, and especially loved watching their basketball games. She was a proud member of Fusion Community Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1996, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike (Rose) Kodra, Jr, and Charles (Betty) Kodra.
She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Mary) of Endwell and Gary (Terry) of East Worcester; grandchildren, Alyssa Pochkar of Boston, Kara Pochkar of Endwell, Karli (Tyler) Lewis of Castle Creek, Carson Pochkar of Middleburgh, Jaime (Cassandra) Salone, Jr. of Richfield Springs and Jordan (Naomi) Salone of Unadilla Forks; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Lucas Salone of Unadilla Forks, and baby boy Lewis due in March; several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her twin cousins, who were like sisters to her, Betty Boreali of Cobleskill and Mary Schultz of Schoharie.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street in Worcester.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, at Fusion Community Church, 375 North Grand Street, Cobleskill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fusion Community Church.
