Elsie Dorothy Schrull, 87, passed away January 15, 2007 at Covenant Village in Turlock, California.
She was born August 30, 1919, the daughter of John Schrull and Rose (Tyre) Schrull, in Holbrook, New York, one of nine children.
She graduated from Nyack Missionary Training Institute in 1948, and SUNY Oneonta in 1955 with a degree in education. She moved to Nevada in 1958 and later to California, where she taught in Maxwell, Ferndale, Tchachapi and San Jose schools. She lived in San Jose for many years and retired after 21 years of service from the San Jose Police Department.
Elsie often made trips back east to visit family members in New York and Virginia, and took great joy in the role of family historian, taking many photographs of her siblings, their homes, and especially the children as they grew up. She also enjoyed various trips abroad and was active in the Covenant Church and the Women's Health Institute in San Jose. In 1999 she retired to Covenant Village in Turlock, California, where she was visited often by her niece, Betty (Schrull) Barber, a thoughtful and loving caregiver.
Elsie is survived by a sister, Florence of Virginia and several nieces and nephews and their families. She will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Otto, Rudy, Robert and John and her sisters, Olga, Lillian and Rose.
Burial and a private service at the West Oneonta Cemetery will take place in the spring.
