Obituary

ONEONTA – Emilia "Ruth" Brewer, passed away June 14, 2008 at the Otsego Manor with her family by her side.



Emilia was born July 18, 1916 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Federico and Marie (Rhoder) Mirti.



Emilia and Howard Brewer were married in Brooklyn in 1964. Howard predeceased her in the early 1970's.



Emilia moved to Schenevus from Brooklyn in 1982 and then to Nader Towers in Oneonta where she lived for many years. In 2007 she became a resident of The Otsego Manor.



Emilia was always proud of her swimming abilities. As a young girl she won a Gold Medal for swimming. She always enjoyed teaching the young and old alike to swim. When she was in her sixties she taught swimming at the YMCA in Oneonta. She also enjoyed making crafts, collecting antique dishes and spending time with her loving family.



Emilia is survived by a daughter, Joan Dukich of Massapequa; a son Joseph Trancho of Schenevus; grandchildren, Kathleen Manning, James Bealin, Elizabeth and husband Kenneth Dean, Daniella Trancho, and Joseph Trancho III; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrea, Ryan and Stephanie Manning, Elizabeth and Jessica Bealin, Kenneth, Lauren and Catherine Dean.



She was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Trancho, one brother, Frederick and three sisters, Emma, Sylvia and Linda.



A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2008 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, as celebrant.



Following mass there will be a reception in the parish hall across the street.



At Emilia's request she was cremated. Burial will take place later in the Elk Creek Cemetery.
