Eric Gunnar
Anderson
June 28, 1938 – October 18, 2022
Schenevus – Eric Gunnar Anderson, 84, passed away October 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 28, 1938 in Brooklyn, the son of Gunnar and Helvi (Saarinen) Anderson.
Eric served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for 8 years.
He married Arlyn Schneider on September 29, 1963 in Valley Stream, NY.
Eric was a Union worker in the construction trades for 28 years, and then for the NYS Department of Transportation for 18 years.
Eric built his first home in Oceanside, Long Island. He eventually traded the ocean waterfront for the beautiful mountains in Schenevus, moving with his family in 1981 to the second home he built. Eric and Arlyn spent their retired winters in Stuart, Florida.
Eric was an avid collector of antique automobile license plates. His collection impressed everyone. Eric always had a passion for cars; and he was especially proud of his mint condition 1993 Mazda Miata which recently became a classic.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Arlyn Anderson of Schenevus; daughter, Christine Anderson of Cooperstown; son, Kenneth Anderson (Tracie Newkirk) of New Paltz; sister, Linda Kolb (John) of Rockville Centre; sister-in-law, Joan Bates of Bellmore; several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Eric will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to all of our beloved neighbors, friends and Eric's (personal) nurse angel Tracie Newkirk, for the love, care and support given in our time of need.
A celebration of life will be planned at his home and announced at a later time in 2023.
Donations may be sent to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to Susquehanna SPCA, 5082-5088 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
