ONEONTA - Esther Koury passed away on August 18, 2022 at 92 years of age.

She was born on January 31, 1930 in Oneonta, NY.

She graduated with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Syracuse University. For most of her career, Esther worked for the New York State Department of Labor as the Director of the Administrative Finance Bureau. In total, she was a dedicated public servant for 44 years. In 1994, she was one of 125 women across the country inducted into the YWCA's Academy of Women Achievers. She spent a significant part of her adult life commuting between Albany, NY where she worked and lived, and Oneonta, NY, the place she called home. After retiring in 1996, she spent her remaining years in Oneonta in her childhood home. From 2002-2003 she served as a Commissioner for the City of Oneonta. She loved spending time with her family, bowling, playing cards with her friends, and writing political blogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and Mary Koury; sisters, Jane, Marion, Nora and Susie Koury, and brothers, Joe and Nageeb Koury.

Esther is survived by her brother, Ed Koury, and sister, Betty (Koury) Enokian and her husband Ralph, and by her nieces, Lisa, Nancy, Linda, Cindy, Debbie, Ann and Liz, and her nephews, Joe, Tom and Steve, as well as her niece and nephews-in law, great-nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. She was a true genuine kind soul that cared about everyone and she has been an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours are from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, NY. Visitation will be followed by a Memorial Service led by Dr. Nancy Koury King, and burial at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. After burial, there will be a reception at the 6 ^th Ward Athletic Club on West Broadway.
