SCHENEVUS – Ethel Elizabeth Lawton Vroman, 95, on December 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family peacefully went to be with the Lord.
She was born June 30, 1920 in Millville, PA, the daughter of Silas Orvis and Mabel Elizabeth (Decker) Lawton.
She married Gaius Vroman on February 17, 1945 at the Jefferson United Methodist Church. He predeceased her on May 17, 1999.
Ethel was in the last class to graduate from Westford Union School in 1938. She graduated from Delhi State School, New Rochelle School of Nursing and SUNY Oneonta, receiving a Bachelors of Science as a Registered Nurse.
Most of her nursing career was spent in the Stamford area, at the Community Hospital and local doctor's offices. She was also a School Nurse Teacher at Andes and Fleischmanns Central Schools.
Ethel was a past member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and currently a member of the Schenevus First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Summit Senior Citizens, Schoharie County Republican Committee, the Grange, and the Sunshine Fair Board.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl (Stewart) Nichols of South Carolina, Susan (Mahlon) Ferris of Schenevus, Harold (Donna) Vroman of Charlotteville, Sandra (Timothy) Gergich of Worcester, and Gail (Craig) Patterson of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 5 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter (Rosalita) Lawton of Cobleskill; brother-in-law, Edward Marshall; sisters-in-law, Reta Vroman and Doris (Clint) Cadieux; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Cora Marshall, Rhoda (Fred) Rychick, Phyllis Church; brother-in-law, Paul Vroman; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Jim) VanValen and Grace Marie (Cylus) Youmans.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday December 20 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, December 21, at the First Baptist Church, 15 Monitor St., Schenevus, with the Rev. Fred Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Jefferson Evergreen Cemetery.
