ONEONTA – Eugene T. Bliss (Gene), 69, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Gene was born November 2, 1942 in Portlandville, the son of Lysle and Pearl Bliss.

He married Elaine Packer on January 4, 1964. Gene was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He was an auto mechanic, tractor trailer driver, heavy equipment operator, carpenter and most of all, a perfectionist. He retired from SUCO, Oneonta.

Gene was an avid hunter and loved his guns, especially his Brownings. He loved to fish, snowmobile, camping, his Chevrolets, and especially trapshooting with his wife and friends. He was a member of Milford Fish & Game Club, Hartwick Rod and Gun Club, Crumhorn Rod and Gun Club, Oneonta Sportsman Club and Richfield Sportsman Club. He fulfilled his dream of "bagging" a moose and elk and earned a patch for shooting straight 25 clays.

Gene is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elaine; a sister, Patricia Ventre, Oneonta; a special sister-in-law, Susan Bliss, Milford; brother-in-law, George Miller, many special nieces, nephews, friends and the joy of his life, his little red poodle, Abbi.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lyle, John and Elmer; a sister, Geraldine; and a special mother-in-law, Marjorie Packer.

At his request, there will be no service or calling hours and his wish is to be cremated.

Elaine's request is in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Community Hospice, Hospice Inn, 315 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, for their wonderful care and support given to Gene during his battle with pancreatic cancer.

At a later date, his family and friends will hold a clambake to celebrate his life.
