MARYLAND – Felipe V. Balbuena, 92, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
He was born May 24, 1923 in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines, the son of Victor and Paciencia (Villaruel) Balbuena.
He was a United States Navy veteran from 1946 to 1967, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He obtained the rank of Petty Office 1st Class.
Felipe retired as a Senior Draftsman from Unison, Jacksonville, Fla.
He was a life member of the NRA, was an award winning Kite builder, and enjoyed oil painting and drawing.
He is survived by his children, Phillip "Phil" Balbuena (Bonnie) of Groton, CT, Thomas "Tom" Balbuena (Gail) of Oneida, NY, William "Bill" Balbuena (Michelle) of Alpharetta, GA, Keith Balbuena (Nancy) of Oneida, NY, Rebecca "Becky" Young (Thomas) of Revere, MA, Mark Balbuena (Tina) of Springfield, VA, Teresita "Terri" Samuels (Guy) of Stafford, VA, Beth Kilts (Donnie) of Hartwick, NY, Jonathan "Jon" Balbuena (Jenny) of Hampstead, NC, Christopher "Chris" Balbuena (Sabrina) of Voorheesville, NY, Michael P. Balbuena of Lafayette, LA. His grandchildren, Joe Jr., Robin Smith, Sally, Tammi Rundles (Mark), Daniel, Michael (Erin), Tina, Jason, Stacey Stevens, Tanya Colvin (Brian), Brian, Michael, Christopher, Ali, Paul, Phillip, Lorenzo, Erica Owens, Jennifer, Tyler, Troy, Amber, Dustin, Brian, Jennifer, Nathan, Ryan, Taylor, Reese, Ariana, Mia, Rylee; also 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Luci Balbuena of Woodbury, NJ
He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Balbuena and son, Joseph "Joe" Balbuena; also two brothers and a sister from the Philippines.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
The Funeral Mass will be 10:15 a.m., Thursday, October 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Scott VanDerveer, parochial vicar, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Milford Cemetery, Milford, NY
