Florence C. Savage, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Florence Cynthia Dunning was born February 4, 1934 in Amsterdam, NY and was the daughter of Lilian and Philo Dunning. She graduated from Amsterdam High School and attended Albany Hospital School of Nursing from 1952-1955 where she received her degree as a RN.
She married Donald J. Savage in Amsterdam on February 18, 1956. While not a veteran, she served her husband faithfully as an USAF spouse. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in many different fields across the U.S. as her husband Donald served his country. Locally, she was employed by the Oneonta Nursing Home before she retired in 1986 to serve her family. She is the mother of Karen Schaffer and Phyllis Walker. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta and for many years, she was a volunteer for Otsego Area Hospice ministering to terminal ill patients and their families with love and compassion.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Dr. Robert Dunning and Franklin Dunning.
She is survived by Donald J. Savage, her husband of 63 years, her daughter, Karen and her husband Craig Schaffer of (Otego) and their children, Ryan and Talene (Cobleskill), Rachel (Otego), Bradley and Denielle (Worcester) Philip and Jessica (Rodman), daughter Phyllis and her husband Les Walker (Hancock) and their children, Molly (Rochester) and Tyler and Elizabeth (Endicott). Other important family members include: Jane and Art Ferguson and Charla Cook (Albany), Miriam and Judy Dunning (Central Florida) Carol Allen (Ohio). She was an avid letter writer and her many nieces and nephews across the country benefitted from her extraordinary and faithful correspondence.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street in Oneonta with the Rev. Mark Montfort, officiating. A calling hour will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.
