Obituary

WORCESTER - Florence "Jean" Stilwell, 93, of Chestnut Park Nursing & Rehab, Oneonta, passed away unexpected July 21,2021 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born December 4, 1927 in Worcester, the daughter of Donald & Marge (Armstrong) Platts.

Married Gordon Stilwell on October 11, 1947 in Binghamton.

Jean moved to Florida in July of 1980, then back to her home town of Worcester, May 2003 where she resided until a health condition and was not able to stay at home and was living and loved and cared for at Chestnut Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Oneonta for the last 2 years.

Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church as well as the Worcester Methodist Women's Club and the lunch bunch in Worcester.

Jean was known for her love and passion of her faith and her family. She truly loved her family and friends. She was proud to be a Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. But when she became a Great-Great Grandma and having her 5 generations, she would let everyone know.  She always enjoyed telling stories of her life in Florida and then moving back to New York to be closer to family. She enjoyed bake sales and rummage sales at the churches. Loved family and friends, cookouts and BBQS and get gatherings.  Jean always would make sure she had a baked goods to donate, which her family would bake for her.  When driving past her apartment, in Worcester, you could always see her sitting on her porch which is something she truly enjoyed. Anyone that new Grandma, would tell you, and describe her as the strong willed, stubborn woman, and tell you like it is type of person, holding nothing back. A trait that has been handed down to her family. Jean will be remembered by the most infectious smile, laugh and her incredible ice blue eyes that she always had compliments on and will live on through the eyes that she has blessed her family with.

Jean is Survived by, her loving children, daughter, Jacqueline (Harold) Southworth of Worcester, daughter, Donna Pierce of Cumberland, RI, and son, Terry Stilwell of Green Acres, Fla.; her loving grandchildren, Tonya ( Mark) Rowe of Oneonta, Michael (Courtney) Southworth of Knoxville, TN, Sonya (Zack) Gaines of Nashville, TN, Harold (Annette) Southworth, Pam(James) McCoy of Worcester; her loving great grandchildren, Brandy (Skylar) Muehlfeld, Ashley Turley, Nathaniel (Nicole) Southworth, Jeremy Southworth, Beth (William) Tate, Nicole (Edward) Alvarez, Leo Moore, Robert Martin, Jill Hren; her loving great-great grandchildren, Nadia & Aria Muelfeld, Robert & Ian Livingston, Lyric & Locklyn Gaines, Peyton, Tucker, Wyatt Turley, Thomas Taite, Amira Southworth, Jeffrey Kolka, Connor, Jolene, Trevor Strong, Gaige, Robert Jr., Timber and Rowdy Martin.  Jean is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Stilwell, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins. Very special friends, Molly & Wanda.   As well as special friends dear to her heart.

Jean is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gordon Stilwell; her son, Mark Stilwell; granddaughter, Penny Southworth and grandson, Robert Livingston.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to Tammy B, Debbie, Amanda, Yvette and the Entire Staff at Chestnut Park Nursing and Rehab for the last 2 years. You all have given her so much love and compassion. You became Family to "Gramma Jean" and to her family as well. We are forever thankful for everything.

Calling hours will be 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 30 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester. The Rev. Judith Thistle will be officiating.  The burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
