Floyd Maynard
Conroe
October 7, 1934 – January 30, 2025
Worcester – Floyd Maynard Conroe, 90, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 30, 2025 at The NYS Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born October 7, 1934 in Worcester, the son of Floyd David and Ivah Mae (Becker) Conroe.
Maynard attended the East Worcester School and then Worcester School until the 10th grade. Later in life he was honored to receive his GED which was presented to him at a Veteran's Breakfast at Worcester Central School.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving from 1954 to 1956. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and served on the USS Latimer in the Mediterranean. In 2016, he was an invited guest on the Leatherstocking Honor Flight which he was thrilled to participate in.
Maynard married Lucille Nissen on January 24, 1959 at the Presbyterian Church in Davenport.
He was employed as a truck driver with Chemical Tank Lines in Howes Cave, Tropicana in Bradenton, FL and Lane Corp in Fultonville. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed driving a tour bus with K & K Bus Lines for many years after his truck driving career. Maynard was happy to help many elderly people in the community by giving them rides to appointments. He delighted in visiting with people and loved to tell long detailed stories.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Conroe; their children, Christine (Donald) Zaengle, Jeffrey (Mary Jane) Conroe, Michael (Carol) Conroe, Thomas (Shannon) Conroe, Pamela (James) Kenyon, Michelle (Paul) Millias, and James (Heather) Conroe; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Willard (Barbara) Conroe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Evelyn Brown and brother, Otis Conroe.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the funeral at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester. The Rev. Rus Underwood will be officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
