FALMOUTH, Mass. - Frances G. Weir passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the age of 88, in Falmouth, Mass. She would have turned 89 on the 25th of this month.
Born in Troy, Frances was a longtime resident of Oneonta, and most recently lived in Falmouth.
Throughout her life Frances was a bright and creative spirit who loved to learn about everything around her. She loved animals and nature, and her beautiful voice graced the St. Mary's Church choir for decades. "Grandma, GGMA or Aunt Frances" was beloved by all her children in her family for her storytelling, love of the arts, and in being an avid fan of all sports and artistic performances.
Many Oneonta area residents will remember Frances for the 20 years she worked in the administrative offices at Oneonta Junior High School.
Her memory should elicit a smile by all who knew her and she would not want a tear shed in sorrow.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Weir, from Oneonta; their daughter, Joan Konstanty, currently of Falmouth; her brother, Joseph Grosse of Hopewell Junction, and his wife, Donna, and children, grandsons, Jim, Dan and Jared, their wives, and a total of six great-grandchildren; four nieces, six nephews and their families. Living relatives of Frances hail from Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, Central, Central New York, Connecticut, Boston, and Cape Cod, Mass.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street, Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the cleanup of the gulf oil spill through the National Wildlife Foundation via their website: "www.nwf.org/oil-spilhttp://www.nwf.org/Oil-Spill/Oil-Spill-Restoration-Fund.aspxl."
