Oneonta – Francis A. Ouimet, 68, passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 2024 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born September 16, 1955 in Oneonta, the son of Francis R. and Theresa (Lambert) Ouimet.
Frank grew up in Oneonta and graduated from Oneonta High School, Class of 1973.
He married Janet E. Dent on August 9, 1975 at the West Davenport Baptist Church.
Frank was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He had a beautiful garden, not a weed in it. He was also an amazing carpenter, having built his home, barn, and gazebo, as well as many other projects that kept him happy and busy.
Frank retired from Oneonta Price Chopper, where over the many years he worked in several departments.
Frank "Moochie" and Janet also had the privilege of helping to raise their niece and nephew Rachel (Ouimet) Edson and Ryan Ouimet.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Ouimet; daughter, Nathena (Frank) DelPidio; grandsons, Connor Ouimet and Brighton DelPidio; siblings, Lorretta (Larry) Place, Rosa (Montie) Nichols, Dennis (Josephine) Ouimet, Terry Knowles, Amy (Glenn) Harrington, Penny (Terry) Palmatier; siblings-in-law, Robyn Ouimet, Harriet Shipman, Mina (Squire) Austin, I.G. (Jackie) Dent, Ruth (Ira) Fyfe, and Ginny (Tom) Donnelly; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Matthew Ouimet; sisters, Mary (Don) Jump and Christine Miller; his brother, Joseph Ouimet; nephews, Thomas Place and Gordie Nichols; parents-in-law, Joseph and Myrtle (Barber) Dent; brothers-in-law, Charles Dent, John Dent, Ron Shipman and Harold Austin.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street, Oneonta, with Pastor Steve Estes officiating. There will be a dinner reception following the funeral at the West Davenport Baptist Church, 211 Charlotte Creek Rd., West Davenport.
