Obituary

ONEONTA – Frank D. (Gump) Fisher, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 27, 2007 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Born in Walton on January 17, 1930, Frank was the son of Frank D. and Elizabeth (McClagan) Fisher Sr.

As a veteran of the United States Army, he served his country in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 270 in Walton, NY.

On December 24, 1951, he married his beloved wife, Bertha Krum of Bradley, NY. Who predeceased him in April 2003.

After living in Liberty for several years, where he worked construction and drove dump truck, Frank and his family moved back to Walton. He and his wife owned Fisher's Market, where he made the best sausage in town.

In 1974, he moved to Oneonta, where he again drove dump truck during the construction of Interstate 88, as well as running his own salvage truck.

He had also worked at the Amphenol Plant in Sidney as a production worker, up until his retirement.

Although he wore many hats, his passion was music. He was a member of the "Legendary Fisher Brothers" Country music band, and at one time, he and his brothers, Tom and Jim owned and operated the Country Tavern in Meridale, where they played to a packed house every weekend.

Over the years they entertained at hundreds of weddings, birthday parties and jamborees. They really were something special.

Frank is survived by his sons, Dennis Fisher and his wife, Candy of Arkansas, and Frank D. Fisher III and his wife, Suzanne of Oneonta; grandchildren, Stephanie MacKillip, Aza and Chanda Hoyt, and Maraya and Jada Fisher; great-grandchildren, Asia and Jasmine Haggerty and Owen Hoyt; his brothers, Frances (Loppy) Fisher, Donald Fisher and James Fisher; his sisters, Mary Simmonds, Carol Flynn and Sandra Ross; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Bertha; a son, Randy Fisher; a daughter, Deborah Fisher; and three brothers, Everett (Skeet) Fisher, Thomas Fisher and Richard (Dick) Fisher.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.
