WORCESTER - Frank Sklenka Jr., 77, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 at Focus Otsego in Cooperstown.
He was born on July 8, 1940 in Long Island City; the son of Frank and Alice (O'Toole) Sklenka Sr.
Frank provided for his family as an auto mechanic, learning at the hand of his father in the family business. He rarely found anything on wheels or in the water that he could not operate and repair.
His skill and passion were such that he also chose to teach adult education at night for BOCES in Nassau County. He found his work fulfilling and he enjoyed helping others learn the automotive repair trade.
In his younger life, he resided on Long Island, spending his leisure time hunting in the Catskill region of New York and boating and fishing on the Long Island Sound with his sons. In his later life, he was an avid hunter, shooter and collector of all things mechanical residing Upstate New York.
Frank is survived by his sons, Frank and Thomas; sister, Mary Alice Meinersman; grandchildren, Ryan, Frank, Cassandra, Aidan and William; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister Mildred "Mickey" Humphrey.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St. in Worcester with the Rev. Daniel Martin officiating. Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. until the service time at 6 p.m.
A private family burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
