SCHENEVUS – Frank F. Smith, 78, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after complications from pneumonia.
He was born February 27, 1931 in Yonkers, the son of Archibald and Mary (Frey) Smith.
Frank was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict as a supply sergeant.
He married Dorothy Russo on June 12, 1954 in Tuckahoe.
Frank worked for C-Thru Ruler Co. in Bristol, Conn. in the sales department and upper management. He was a professional ski instructor for 25 years, specializing in Adaptive Ski Instruction, and was a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Frank also raised and trained Seeing Eye dogs.
He was a member of St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Catholic Churches.
Frank was a devoted husband and father. Surviving him are, his wife, Dorothy Smith of Schenevus; their children, Pamela Geiger of Wayne, NJ, Fred and his wife, Natasha Smith of Phoenix, AZ and Janice and her husband, Brian Pappas of Silverthorne, CO; grandchildren, Andrea, Erica, Jeremiah, Dorothea, Logan Francis and Sarah; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Kinne of Yorktown Heights and Virginia Clinchy of Norwalk, CT; a brother, Joseph Smith of Port Saint Lucie, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothea; his parents, brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ at a later date.
