ONEONTA - Frederick P. "Fred" Delello passed away October 14, 2025 , after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on July 15, 1934, in Oneonta, the son of Patsy and Matilda (Martin) Delello.
Fred grew up in Oneonta and was one of 13 children. He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1952. On January 23, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart Nancy Asping, and together they raised 3 boys. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in January.
Fred worked for Grand Union, Elmore Feed Mill, New York Telephone and in 1965 he started his own business, J&D Printers. He owned and operated J&D for 60 years and retired at the age of 90.
Fred was an avid bowler. He bowled at LaMonica's, The Oneonta Elks Club, in Cooperstown and in tournaments all across the country. One of his proudest moments in life was in 1963 when he won the United States ABC singles bowling Championship. That same year, he represented the United States at The World Bowling Championships in Mexico City, Mexico.
Fred loved giving back through youth programs. He started youth bowling at the Oneonta Elks Club. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He helped coach The Oneonta Moose Club Small Fry Baseball team to a New York State championship and served as president
of Oneonta little league. He was an assistant bowling coach for the Oneonta High School girls bowling team and was a supporter and sponsor of Oneonta Peewee football.
Fred was a founding member of the Oneonta Little League Foundation, 6th Ward Athletic Club and helped established the Oneonta Fast Pitch Softball League.
He served 17 years as a Call Firefighter with the City of Oneonta Fire Department and served 9
years on The City of Oneonta School Board, where he made it a point to serve kids the best way he could.
Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy and their sons, Patsy, Fred and Jim; grandchildren, Ashley and Kragh; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Celia, Bernice, Frances, Esther, Philmeno, Eleanor, Joan, Carole and Martha; brothers, Martin, Bernard, Patrick; grandson, James Joseph Delello Jr.
At the request of Fred there will be no funeral service.
