Frederick M. Hoose, 78, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

He was born on August 18, 1936 in Vergennes, VT; the son of Vernon E. and Marion A. (Harkness) Hoose.

Fred moved from Vergennes, VT on May 21, 1956 to work at Sheffield Chemical in Oneonta.

He married Beverly Jean Utter on August 23, 1958. She predeceased him in 1970. Fred then married Ruth Maben Short on August 27, 1983. She predeceased him in 2012.

Fred was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to stock car races.

He is survived by his son Kevin Hoose, his daughter Diane Curry and her husband Bill, 2 grandchildren, Justin and Melissa, a brother Francis Hoose, his nephews Ken (Colleen) Hoose and their daughter Kelsey, Robert Hoose, Karl Hoose and David Hoose, 4 step-sons, John (Jeannette) Short, Robert (Sharon) Short, Ronald Short and Evan Short, 3 daughter-in-laws, Justine Szezepanski, Julie Short and Lisa Short, 11 step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Alex, Sarah, Adam, Brad, Craig, Jared, Kori, Kyle, Megan, Miguel and Nick and 3 step-great grandchildren, Meisha, Joseph and Vivian.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert Hoose in 1939; and a grandson, Devon Short.

A graveside prayer given by his brother Francis will take place 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
