Oneonta - On the evening of May 17, 2025 Frederick L Miller, 97, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ, his Lord.
He entered this world on May 7, 1928 the first son of Stanley S. and Carrie (Sisson) Miller.
Fred worked for the D&H Railroad for several years before marrying Marion Fenton in 1950. In 1952, he started volunteering with the West Oneonta Fire Department and organized the Junior Boys Fire Department Club. He served as a councilman for the Town of West Oneonta. Fred worked at Sears and Roebuck from 1954 to 1978 retiring at the age of 50. He was named as a top salesman in the North East Zone for Sears as well as a top division manager. In 1960, Fred began purchasing several apartment buildings, putting to good use his electrician's license.
Fred, with several special friends established the motorcycle group "The Retreads." He loved a good adventure, was known as a world traveler, taking many cruises. He and his wife traveled across the country to Alaska on his motorcycle. At one time he owned a single engine Cessna making many flights within the United States. Fred also enjoyed fishing and once caught a 300-pound tuna off Rhode Island.
He was well known for his gentle, easy-access personality and he will be missed for this and so many other qualities.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Miller in 1999, his son, Douglas Miller in 2003, and his second wife, Martha in 2014.
Fred is survived by his three children, Diana (Brian) O'Connor, Ronda (Stephen) Monington and Fred (Andrea) Miller; his daughter-in-law, Donna Miller; seven grandchildren, Calvin, Scott, Carrie, Kurt, Audrey, Justin and Brandon; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Roger (Joan) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 PM with a brief service at 3 PM and a time for a remembrance on Saturday, June 28 at the Assembly Of God Church, 1667 County Road 48, Oneonta.
The interment will take place at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.
