Milford
Gary R. Buriello of Milford NY, formerly of New Jersey, passed away on October 6, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
He was born in Union City, NJ, August 26, 1934 to Mary and Dominic Buriello.
Gary was a 1957 graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy and had a successful career spanning 32 years, retiring with the rank of Major. He continued his law enforcement career another three years as the Bergen County Under Sheriff in charge of the Jail, retiring in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Joan (nee Maker) ; his daughter Laurie and son-in-law Clayton Stolk; three grandchildren, Anthony (wife Nicole) Rutigliano, Salvatore Rutigliano, and Lindsay Stolk; five great-grandchildren; Gianna, Clayton, Guiliana, Brock, and Talia; Brothers Lewis Buriello of Oneonta, and Arthur (wife Elenor) Spranger also of Oneonta; and Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Judy Maker of SC.
Nephews Michael Buriello of Middlefield, David Maker of Atlanta, GA, and William (wife Rebecca) Maker of Brooklyn, NY.
He was predeceased by his son Ronald in 2002.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street in Oneonta. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, officiating.
