Monser
January 7, 1932 – January 20, 2023
Oneonta – George W. Monser, 91, passed away January 20, 2023 at home after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
George was born January 7, 1932 in Oneonta, the son of Selime J. and Betty (Shaumas) Monser.
He graduated from Oneonta High School, Class of 1949 and also from Hartwick College in 1953.
George served 8 years in the United States Army Reserves and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
He was the former owner of Monser Bros Tire Sales in Oneonta, among many other enterprises and endeavors, he succeeded as a true entrepreneur. He was an active member of the Oneonta community and was the oldest living member of Oneonta Elks Club. He was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Brand Monser; his brother, Philip Monser and his son, Paul Monser; nieces, Kathy Clarkson, and Deborah Monser Whitehead and her family, Stacy (Wendell) Long, Josh Whitehead, Jeremy (Brandy) Enck and their children, Colton Monser Enck and Jaxon Enck; a nephew, Don Eckler and his daughters, Casey Eckler and Carey Eckler Sutphin.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jerry and Betty Monser; sisters, Josie Gilmour and Jane Monser Shultis Hazzard; nieces, Ann Monser Eckler and Peggy Monser.
A very special thank you to dear friends Karen and Joe Sandoli, his favorite nephew Jeremy and his wife, Brandy Enck and George's buddy, Kirt Mykytyn, for your compassion, love and support.
The family also wishes to thank Helios Care and George's girls, Paula, who also took care of George's father when he was on hospice, and Lisa, Casey and Tonya.
At George's request there will be no calling hours.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. James O'Rourke as celebrant.
The interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
