Mravlja Sr.
February 22, 1938 – September 1, 2021
DECATUR – George P. Mravlja Sr., 83, passed away September 1, 2021 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 22, 1938 in Decatur, the son of Jake and Angela (Pawlich) Mravlja.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Medved on August 12, 1967 at St. Joseph's Church in Worcester.
George was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Worcester Central School, Class of 1957. He worked and lived on the Mravlja family farm in Decatur. He was a former Town of Decatur Supervisor and was a Delegate for Eastern AI. George enjoyed family gatherings, car rides in the country, deer hunting and watching the wildlife out on the farm.
George was a United States Army veteran, serving as a MP in Korea.
He is survived by his children, Peter Mravlja and wife, Kris of Decatur, and Tina Schoeberl and husband, Jeff of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Jodi Mravlja of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Christopher (Katrine), Sandra (Collin), Nathaniel, Schuyler (Morgan), Angel, Jacob and Elyza; great-grandchildren, Lane, Phoenix, Penelope and one due in October; his sister, Dorothy Vroman; sisters-in-law, Helen McNichol, and Connie Mravlja, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Betty; son, George and brother, Richard.
On Saturday, October 2, 2021 visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street in Worcester. A funeral mass will at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 201 Main Street in Worcester with the Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy as celebrant. Interment for George and Betty will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester. There will also be military honors for George.
