Gerald V. Coombs Sr., 79, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

He was born December 14, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY; the son of George F. and Mildred (Brockoff) Coombs.

Jerry married Margaret Markey on February 13, 1954.

He served aboard the USS Worcester #144 in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954.

He was a member of the Worcester Fire Department, the Worcester American Legion Post #1584 and the D.A.V. in Oneonta.

Jerry worked for many years at General Electric in Philadelphia and Schenectady and was a custodian at the Worcester Central School.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Coombs; 2 daughters, Margaret Nelson (Joseph III) and Kathleen McTaggart (Timothy); 2 sons, William Coombs (Melissa) and Gerald Coombs Jr.; 7 grandchildren, Kimberly Tremblay (Brian), Shannon Hunt (Joe), Amanda Nelson, Joseph Nelson IV, Christopher Coombs (Kim), Josh Coombs (Jen) and Sean McTaggart; 2 great grandchildren, Ashley and Hunter Coombs; his sister Mildred Koren; special cousins, Geraldine, Marilyn, Margie and Mickey; his daughter-in-law Linda Nichols; friends and family, Kim Adee, Graig, Karen, Tyler, Grant and Aaron, many nieces, nephews and Jodi his dog.

Thank-you to all the doctors, nurses, aides and hospice – they were wonderful with dad.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
