Gerald "Jerry"
L. Norton Sr
October 14, 1939 – January 23, 2021
Edmeston – Gerald L. Norton Sr. "Jerry", 81, passed away on January 23, 2021 at his home peacefully in his sleep. He was born October 14, 1939 in Worcester NY. He was the son of Leon and Bertha (Hill) Norton.
Jerry enjoyed being outdoors. He worked his whole life logging and processing firewood. He had many near misses, trials and tribulations in the woods while working but was like a cat with many lives. He truly loved life and always took advantage of times to go fishing or hunting. He was known to assist in keeping the deer population down by having a full freezer of delicious venison. He was very resourceful and put his knowledge to work at making a life. Never, would he throw anything away until he stripped the metal out of it to sort into his aluminum and copper piles. He saved various stuff in his big old barn and if someone couldn't find something, they would think to ask Jerry. Most times he was thrilled to find the exact item or something that would make do for them. He was a kind, generous person who knew how to make the best of things and have some fun in life. He may not have had a lot in material measures, but he was rich in so many other ways. All that met him couldn't help but enjoy his company while he was telling some fun stories back in the day. His children can most definitely look back and laugh at some of the great stories we can share. Jerry was a good friend to many. May his acts of kindness be remembered and inspire others to be kind.
He is survived by his children, Yvonne White (Jeff), Bonnie Craig (Ed), Connie Norton, Jerry Norton Jr. (Marie), Becky Norton and David Lock and Wendy Burton (Don); grandchildren, Brian Norton, Moriah Norton, Tyler Lock, Colton and Rolan Burton; his siblings, Sandy Sutton (Raymond), Pat Mabie (Leland), Betty Miller, David Norton and Robert Norton (Betty). Also surviving are his great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and special friends, Cindy Turner, Roger and Ed.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester. Due to current restrictions, please wear a face cover, maintain social distancing and be prepared to wait to enter the building.
Burial will take place at the South Valley Cemetery at a later date.
Maybe today to remember Jerry, have a drink, play some pitch, stop life to laugh, sit on the porch swing to watch the birds and pet the cat, take time to see the sun come up and admire the moonlit night and be kind to each other. Not all things that make you rich are able to be visibly touched.
Jerry really loved all animals, especially his cats. In his honor please consider a donation to The Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown NY 13326, www.sqspca.org
