ONEONTA – Gilbert Manuel Terriquez, 83, went to be the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at home with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 2, 1927 in Brooklyn, the son of Juan and Marie (Cordero) Terriquez.
Gilbert was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1946.
He married Elizabeth Aravena on October 8, 1948 in Brooklyn.
Gilbert was employed at Eaton Corp. in Deer Park as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1990.
In 1975 he started building a second home in Harpersfield, permanently moving there in 1990.
Gilbert was a volunteer Fireman for the Deer Park Fire Department and a member of the Deer Park Fireman Benevolent Association. He was Fireman of the Year. Gilbert was a member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Deer Park, a member of the Vestry and also was a member of the Jefferson Senior Citizens.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Terriquez; their children, Laura Terriquez-Kasey of Oneonta, Mae X. Terriquez of Crownsville, MD and Gilbert J. and wife, Debra Terriquez of Stamford, and their children, Michael, Dannielle and Lisa; a brother, Raul Terriquez of Milwaukee, WI; a sister, Lillian Fulladosa of Mission Viejo, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at St. James Episcopal Church, 305 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, as celebrant. The committal service with military honors will follow at St. James' columbarium.
