Obituary

ONEONTA, NY - H. David (Dave) Zuidema passed away peacefully, with his wife and sister-in-law at his side, on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare Hospital, Cooperstown, NY. His passing followed illness of several months and he is now at home in Heaven with his Lord and Savior.



He was born on June 21, 1941 in Paterson, N.J. to Herman and Jessie (Brain) Zuidema. He married Debbie Smythe in 1964. They divorced and he married Donna Kaneg Wells on January 28, 1998.



Born and raised in New Jersey, and following graduation from Midland Park High School, New Jersey, Dave continued working as a partner with his dad in Zuidema and Son Trucking and Rigging for many years. In 1988 while Dave was visiting family in Oneonta, he met and later married Donna and moved to Oneonta. Dave worked at Archer's Building Supply, for Bernard Kaneg, at KMS Plastics, Glenwood Cemetery and for Bob Sharp. He was a member of the 6th Ward Athletic Club.



Dave is survived by his loving and devoted wife and companion of 22 years, Donna; 2 sons, Darren of New Jersey and Kenneth and his wife, Nina, and their son, Markus, of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Lois Roam and her longtime companion, Gary Kaneg, of Milford, NY; his close sister-in-law, Carol Bott and her husband, Herman and family of Troy, NY; brothers-in-law, Bernard Kaneg and Bonnie, of Milford, NY and Ronald and wife, Mary Kaneg of West Sand Lake, NY; his nephew, Michael A. Roam and wife, Vanessa and 2 children of Davenport, NY; step-son, Alan Wells and wife, Lidija and step-grandchildren, Timothy, Brianna and Dane of New Jersey; many friends and family, from New Jersey and the Oneonta area.



Dave was predeceased by his dad in 1987, his mom in 1991, and his older sister, Joyce Fay Allard, in 2001.



There will be calling hours at the Lewis Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home on 51 Dietz St. Oneonta, NY on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 10 a.m. to Noon. The funeral service will be held at Noon, with the Pastor Mike Glisson of Faith Baptist Church, Cooperstown, officiating.



A graveside service will take place at a future date, with Dave's family in attendance.
