New York Mills – Harry Wayne Barton, 78, passed away August 7, 2022 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with his brother, Ron and friend, Jim by his side.

Wayne was born June 27, 1944 in Oneonta, the son of Harry E. and Betty M. (Shaw) Barton.

He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1962.  While in high school he was an accomplished trumpet player and was in the band for 3 years.   Wayne then graduated from Broome Technical College.

Wayne worked for New York State Department of Transportation in Utica, later transferring to New York State Thruway Authority, retiring from New York State Canal Corporation.

His passion was building model cars and attending stock car races from the 1950's to his time of death.

He is survived by his siblings, Alan K. Barton of Binghamton, Ronald B. Barton and his companion, Sandra Keiter of Otego, and Janice M. and husband, Joe Huber of St. Petersburg, FL; his aunt, Betty Shaw of Oneonta; several nieces and nephews; and his good friends, Jim Amado, who he shared the model car passion with and Mel Ogden, who he shared the love of 1950's and 1960's stock cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the funeral service at Noon, on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.  The Rev. Marti Swords-Horrell, officiating.

The burial will follow at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
