Hazel M. (Nelson) Allen of Rockledge, FL, formerly of Worcester, age 78, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Allen; brother, Sam Hicks; children, Cynthia Nelson of Charleston, SC, Russell Nelson of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Lynda & Joe Clark of Worcester; 3 grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary and Morgan Clark of Worcester; 3 step-children, Chris & John Dietrich, Connie & John Smith, Julie & Jim Carroccia, 7 step-grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Sam & Matilda Hicks; brother, Fred Hicks, husband, Richard Nelson, and 2 sons, Ricky & Billy Nelson.

Hazel was a hairdresser for 50 years and managed the Nutrition Program in Worcester for Senior Citizens for 10 years prior to moving to FL. She graduated 60 years ago from Worcester Central School and Austin Beauty School in Albany. She was a 54 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary & past president of unit 1584. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Worcester.

Hazel was loved by many and will be missed by all. A small private family service was held at home.

The Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Worcester United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
