Obituary

MARYLAND - Helen Lucille Riddell died on 19 March 2009 and is she now home with her Lord and Savior.

She was born on July 7, 1920 in Elba, NY. Helen was the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Gardner) Wigton.

Her early years were spent in Elba and Oakfield. Later she worked in a bank in Rochester.

She married Alton B. Riddell on December 3, 1960, and moved to Cooperstown Junction. Alton and Helen enjoyed working on the family farm and cutting wood together. Alton died on March 28, 1995.

She is survived by one step-grandaughter, Patricia Riddell Kent and her husband, Steven Kent of Oneonta; by a brother-in-law, John Robertson of Batavia, several nieces and nephews, Lesley (Robertson) and George Gibbs of Batavia, Elizabeth (Wigton) and Tony Fortunato of Batavia, Paula (Wigton) and Bill Mossman of Batavia, Jim and Carol Wigton of Rochester, and Tom and Fran Wigton of Batavia.

Helen is predeceased by her stepson, Robert V. Riddell of Colliersville in 2002, his wife Janice in 2004, and their son Robert Bruce Riddell in 1974.

She is also predeceased by her her siblings and their spouses: Lester and Madge Wigton, Doris (Wigton) Robertson, Jessie Wigton, Shirley (Wigton) and Bob McCabe, and Arlene Wigton.

She was a member of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church where she was dedicated to serving the church and The Lord by serving as a Communion Steward and by playing the organ for many years. She played her final service on Christmas Eve of 2008. She had many loving and very supportive friends in her church family.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Cooperstown Junction Methodist Church on Thursday, 26 March 2009 at 11:00am with Al Bullard, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Creek Cemetery, Schenevus, NY.
