Helen R. Staruck
SCHENEVUS - Helen R. Staruck, 60, of Smokey Avenue passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at her residence with her loving husband by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Helen was born in Brooklyn on February 20, 1947, and moved to Oneonta at the age of five. She was the daughter of John and Sophie Szot.
Helen married David M. Staruck on July 27, 1968 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schenevus.
She was retired from Otsego County Patrons in Schenevus where she had worked for 20 years.
Helen was the founding President of the Schenevus VFW Auxiliary, member of the
C. H. Graham Hose Company Women's Auxiliary, on the Board of Directors for NYIA, member of the Red Hats Society and was named in the "Who's Who" for women in business.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons, Joel of Schenevus and Jeremy and his companion, Tracy Keator of Johnstown, Colorado; one daughter Stacey and husband, Mark Rivino of Windsor, Colorado. She is also survived by in-laws, Joseph and Judith Staruck of Schenevus, Thomas and Mary Hynes of Roxbury, and Sondra and Joseph Marano of North Carolina, in addition to several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Helen was predeceased by both parents and her mother-in-law, Jeanne Staruck.
Calling hours for Helen will be held Sunday, March 11, 2007 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester.
Interment will take place in the spring at the Schenevus Cemetery.
