ELK CREEK – Herbert Gustav Butzke, 83, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
He was born January 30, 1934 in Zulshagen Kreis Dramburg, Germany, the son of Frankz and Emma (Kamp) Butzke.
He married Gretel Pape on October 12, 1963.
Herbert came to the United States as a teenager and worked in New York City. He moved to Elk Creek and purchased the family dairy farm, Butzke Farms, which is still in operation.
He was a member of the Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge No 592. Herbert enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Gretel Butzke; two sons, John Butzke and Marjorie Garden of Schenectady; William and Kimberly Butzke of Schenevus; a grandson, William Jr. and Hanna Butzke of Schenevus.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Nicole Butzke.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Schenevus Cemetery, Main St., Schenevus, with the Rev. Fred Johnson, pastor at the First Baptist church, officiating. There will also be a Masonic service.
