ONEONTA – Herbert Siems passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford, NY.

The son of Grete (Ristig) and Carl Siems, he was born in Bronx, NY.

Herbert graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, Bronx in 1947.

He served in the United States Air Force earning a certificate of graduation in the Medical Corps and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Herbert was employed by The Daily Star for 25 years.

He married the former Jean Benson on March 29, 1964. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Eric Siems of California; grandson, Eric Alexander Siems; two cousins, Cordelia (Hubertus) Fraatz and Dr. Alexander (Georgia) Siems, all of Germany.

Herbert was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Fred Siems.

Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, officiating.
