Obituary

SCHENEVUS – Isabel R. Scofield, 83, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta, under the care of Hospice after an extended illness.


She was born April 17, 1927 in Otego, the daughter of Elmer and Evelyn (Nickerson) Davis.


She married Charles Duane Scofield on August 2, 1947 in Otego.


In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Scofield was a child care provider and had worked in the Glove Shop and Emblem Factory in Schenevus. She was past member of the C.H. Graham Hose Co. Auxiliary in Schenevus and a member of Schenevus VFW Auxiliary. She was a Telephone Pioneer partner. She was an avid bowler, bowling in the Worcester and Oneonta Leagues.


She enjoyed making afghans for her grandchildren, as well as sewing for her family. Mrs. Scofield love to cook and bake, and was known for her outstanding pies. She had a special ability to be connected to her family, knowing everyone's daily routines and whereabouts of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all without the use of a cell phone.


She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Duane Scofield of Schenevus; their children, Barbara Scofield (fiancé, Timothy Green) of Schenevus, Bruce (Sharon) Scofield of Schenevus, Beverly (Kirk) Stropes of Cassatt, SC, and Brenda (Eugene) Tessitore of Schenevus; grandchildren, Michelle (Edwin) Munoz, Mark (Jennah) Scofield, Jeffrey Scofield, Kimberly Scofield, Kyle (Heather) Stropes, Jeremy Stropes (Hannah Orvin), Rebecca Tessitore (Nic Brent), and Erika Tessitore; great-grandchildren, Luke and Noah LaBare, Isabella Munoz, Riley and Sawyer Scofield, Ensley Stropes and Isabella Brown; a brother, Richard Davis of PA; sisters, Alta Smith of Otego and Roberta (Donald) Colley of VA; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Davis of Otego; and many nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Donald Davis; brother-in-law, Ralph Smith; sister-in-law, Dorothy Davis; and nephews, Michael Colley and Jack Smith.


Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.


The funeral service will be Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, Chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.


Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego.


In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be sent to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
