Ivan L. Preston's Obituary
HARTWICK – Ivan L. Preston, 69, passed away suddenly Saturday, October 10, 2009 at his home.
He was born December 29, 1939 in Schenevus.
Ivan married Betty Sellick on January 31, 1965. She predeceased him on September 2, 1999.
Ivan was employed with the Village of Cooperstown working on road maintenance for many years. He then went to work for the City of Oneonta Bus Garage, where he retired.
Ivan loved his pets, Ben, Brandon and Honey. He had a great sense of humor and was the life of a party, always joking around. He especially loved spending time with his two granddaughters, and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his two daughters, Wanda and John Staats of Maryland, and Lori and Jeff McCord of Cherry Valley; two granddaughters, Brittany and Emily Hoag; a close brother, Leon Preston of Hartwick; a close cousin, Carlton Woodbeck of Hartwick; two brothers, Kevin Preston of Middlefield and Dave Preston of Vermont; brother-in-law, Robert Sellick; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Tylee and Lula Huwey; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Clara (Tompkins) Preston and a nephew, Keith Preston.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker, retired, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
