WORCESTER – Jakob (Jake) G. Muehl, 91, passed away November 4, 2015 of congestive heart
failure. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 18, 1924 in Palesnik, Yugoslavia, the son of Jakob A. and Katherine (Schmall)
Muehl.
Since age 3, Jake has resided in Worcester, moving into the family farm house at age 9. He
graduated from Worcester Central School and married Viola Lewis on April 19, 1947 at St.
Joseph's Church in Worcester. Together they raised their family on the Muehl family dairy
farm.
Jake, while farming, carried his sense of humor into his interests in music, chess and teaching.
He learned to fly small planes, drove school bus, substitute taught and had a chess club at
Worcester Central School, attended SUNY Oneonta, and taught at Bishop Gibbons High School
in Schenectady. He also worked at the Worcester Inn Bowling Alley, delivered mail for the U.S.
Postal Service, drove a bulk milk truck and was a volunteer fireman. He was an active member
of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester, an officer of the local chapter of the Eastern Milk
Producers Co-op, sang in the Midstatesman Barbershop and Worcester Community Chorale,
played clarinet with the Cooperstown Summer Town Band, Schoharie County Band and the
Worcester Old Timers Band.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Muehl of Worcester; daughters, Susan Rooney of Worcester,
MA, Stephanie (Larry) Price of Palatine Bridge, Nancy (Larry) Decker of Worcester; 10
grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ottillie Ferrara of Oneonta and Elizabeth Michaud
of Cortland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Amy; siblings, Martin, Mary Naples, Catherine Clark,
Michael, Anton and Rosalie Ryan.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St.,
Worcester. Remembrance time will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church, Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM as celebrant.
Burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Food and fellowship will follow in the church Social
Hall.
