ONEONTA – James W. Fisher, 71, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He was born January 25, 1940 in Rock Rift, NY, the son of Frank D. and Elizabeth (McClagan) Fisher, Sr.
Jim married Evelyn Ferrera on April 15, 1966 in Deposit.
Most of his working years were spent as a self employed dump truck driver.
Jim's true passion was music. He played bass guitar and sang as part of "The Fisher Brothers Band". With his brothers Frank and Tom they owned The Country Tavern in Delhi, where many wonderful friendships were formed.
Jim was a gentle, fun loving man who liked classic country music, visiting with family and friends, a good joke, his golf cart and summer days on his porch.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Fisher; daughter, Christine Fisher and granddaughter, Caitlyn; son, James S. and wife, Peg Fisher and grandchildren, Alexandra, Danielle and Nic; two daughters, Cindy Boecke and Tina Picinich and their families; brothers, Francis "Loppy" and wife, Margo Fisher and Donald and wife, Joy Fisher; "brother"/nephew, Frank and wife, Darlene Prentice; sisters, Mary and husband, John Simmons, Carol and husband, Pat Flynn and Sandra and husband, Tony Ross; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Arlene Ferrera; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Everett "Skeet", Frank Jr. "Gump", Thomas and Richard Fisher; long-time friends, Wayne Alcott and Clarence Smith.
The family wishes to express gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care of Doctors Christopher and Carolyn Wolf-Gould and Doctor Jennifer Rule.
Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Davenport Cemetery, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Otego Emergency Squad, 5 River St., Otego, NY 13825, in which family members volunteer.
