Obituary

James E. Mykytyn, 91, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on September 23, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born on January 18, 1933, in Chadwicks, NY, James was the youngest of five children to Nicholas and Anna (Scrabut) Mykytyn. He graduated from Earlville Central School in 1952, where he met the love of his life, Suzanne Nower. The two were married on December 2, 1955, and shared 48 wonderful years together until Suzanne's passing.

James attended Ithaca College, where his athletic talents earned him a spot on the baseball team. He graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy and went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a physical therapist at the Pentagon. Following his military service, he began his career at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital before working for New York State and later retiring from Otsego County.

A longtime resident of Oneonta, James was known not only for his professional dedication but also for his passions outside of work. He loved cooking and feeding anyone who stopped by his home, ensuring that no guest left hungry. James also cherished his time playing cards with friends at the Elks Club, officiating high school basketball and soccer, and was an avid golfer—famously the second best in his family! His generosity, humor, and deep friendships enriched his life and the lives of those around him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne, and his daughter, Kimberly Stockin.

James is survived by his children, Nanette (Michael) Greeley, Judd (Patricia) Mykytyn, Zoeanne (Reid) Sandner, Pamela Bryant, and Kirt (Barbara) Mykytyn, along with eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory.
