Milford - James L. Norton, 76, passed away on June 20, 2023, doing what he loved to do, fishing at Goodyear Lake.

He was born May 22, 1947 in Oneonta, the son of Leo Patrick and Wava Nina (VanDewerker) Norton.

Jim graduated from Oneonta High School. He was drafted into the United States Army serving in Germany for two years guarding the Berlin Wall and obtaining an honorable discharge. He then served in the Army Reserves until 1974.

Jim married Carla Delello on February 29, 1980 in Milford.

He was a mechanic at West End Implement, Laneway, and the Town of Worcester. After retirement he transported vehicles for Oneonta Country Club Chevrolet.  He also helped many local farmers as a mechanic fixing large and small engines.

Jim was a very talented woodworker. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, also enjoying walking and nature. He and Carla traveled extensively across the United States including Hawaii and Alaska and abroad.

He is survived by his siblings Betty and Jim McAdams, Ivan and Sue Norton, Leo and Annell Kreck Norton, Carl and Debbie Norton, Ruby and Kingsley Ross, Rae Glock, Rose Norton and Terry Norton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Edward Stringer; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; a very dear friend, Norine Lundy.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his wife, Carla.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. up until the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Andrew Megnauth officiating.

The military graveside service will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
