James E. O'Connor, Sr.'s Obituary
WORCESTER – James E. O'Connor Sr., 82, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 with his loving family by his side at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born January 5, 1931 in Worcester, the son of Edward and Florence (Potter) O'Connor.
Jim graduated Worcester Central School, Class of 1949 and attended SUNY Cobleskill.
He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1951 to 1955 then continued with the Air Force Reserves for 9 years.
Jim married Virginia "Gynger" Skinner on April 12, 1958 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester.
He retired from New York Telephone Co in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1584 for 60 years; was a past active member of the Worcester Fire Department; served as Worcester Town Justice and Town Supervisor; and was on the Advisory Board for Robinson Broadhurst Foundation in Stamford. Jim loved and enjoyed his family and friends. He was always willing to help a neighbor. He had a special interest in his classic cars and recreation on the farm.
He is survived by his wife, Gynger O'Connor of Worcester; children, James (Debra) O'Connor of Worcester, Timothy (Sherry Waffle) O'Connor of Goodyear Lake, Todd O'Connor of Worcester, Jodi (Mark) Spaloss of New Jersey; grandchildren, Timothy O'Connor, Jr., Christina O'Connor, Mark Spaloss II, Gregory Spaloss and Brendon and Michaela Ralph; sister, Judy (Jim) Amitrano of Florida and several nieces and nephews; also, step-grandchildren, Josh, Aaron and Krista Jester and Thomas, Kelly and Alyx Martin.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St., Worcester.
A memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM as celebrant.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.
