ONEONTA – James W. Utter, 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
Jim was born August 31, 1940 in Milford Center, the son of John W. and Bernice M. (Bliss) Utter.
Jim married Deborah Sperbeck at the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown.
He was a hard and dedicated worker starting at a very young age. He had many occupations. Most recently he worked for Hartwick College and Otsego County.
Jim was member of the Portlandville United Methodist Church and the Word of Faith Church. He was devoted to his family, work and his music. Jim played guitar with several local musicians and bands, including the "Susquehanna Valley Boys". He was proud to have played on TV for the March of Dimes Telethon. He served in the US Marine Corps. Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman, sportsmen and enjoyed canoeing.
Jim is survived by his wife, Deborah Utter; his children and their spouses, Rex Utter, Star Abrams, Brian Sperbeck, Tabitha Terrano and Jamie Osborne; several grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Banner; a brother, Dennis Utter and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Beverly Hoose.
The committal service with Military Honors will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Milford Center Cemetery.
The Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 27th at the Word of Faith Church, with the Rev. Frank MacCracken officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to the Word of Faith Church, 6568 State Highway 7, Maryland, NY 12116.
