ONEONTA - Jane Monser Hazzard, age 71, of Oneonta, NY passed away unexpectedly at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, October 12, 2006.
She was born August 26, 1935 in Oneonta, the daughter of Selime "Sam" and Betty S. Monser.
Jane was previously married to Leon Shultis and resided in Otego for many years. She than married Robert E. Hazzard on June 27, 1992.
She also resided at the Leeward Air Ranch in Ocala, Florida.
Jane was a graduate of Oneonta High School, she received her Bachelors in Science at the State University College of Oneonta and then Post Graduate Library Science degree in 1977 from the University of Hawaii.
Jane was employed for the Oneonta City School District as a teacher and then a librarian. After her teaching career she became the Director of Alumni Affairs at SUCO, retiring in 1993. She remained extremely active in various alumni organizations and as a result was the recipient of the 2006 SUCO Hall of Fame Award. Jane was also very active in many civic and cultural organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Hazzard of Oneonta; her step-son, Peter and his wife, Veronica Hazzard of Kingston; a sister, Josephine Gilmour of Oneonta; two brothers, Philip Monser of Bethesda, Maryland and George and his wife, Sue Monser of Oneonta; nieces and nephews, Kathy and Rodney Clarkson, Paul Monser, Ann Eckler and Deborah Whitehead; sisters-in-law, Betty and her husband, John MacNeill of Homer and Martha and her husband, Joseph Burgett of Stevensville, Montana; many special grand nieces, grand nephews and friends; her beloved canine companion, Kelly.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jerry Monser and a niece, Peggy Monser.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. At the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, with Jane's special friend, the Rev. William D. Bouton, retired and the Rev. Thomas Clemow, pastor, officiating.
