WORCESTER – Janet I. Schmiedel, 72, passed away peacefully April 18, 2017 at her residence at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born January 15, 1945 in Blenheim, the daughter of Clifford and Esther (Hicks) Decker.
She married Robert H. Schmiedel on July 4, 1960 in Schenectady. He predeceased her on September 24, 2014.
Janet moved to the Worcester area in 1965. She worked at Brooks BBQ and then was the manager of the bakery at SUNY Cobleskill for 17 years.
She was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church and a former member of the Worcester Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Garcia of Bovina Center, Larry Schmiedel of Worcester and Christopher Schmiedel of Ashville, NC; a step-son, James and Jane Schmiedel of Schenectady; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother; a son-in-law, Raymond Garcia.
A graveside service will be Noon, Friday May 19, 2017 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, with the Rev. Paul Messner, officiating.
Donations may be made in memory of Janet to the Worcester United Methodist Church, Worcester, NY 12197 or to the Atonement Lutheran Church, 1 Center St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
