Janice E. Harrison, beloved wife, mother, Nana, great Nana, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by so much love, family, and friends. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, and a family who will miss her deeply every day forward.

One thing that should be clear: she was Nana, not Grandma! Jan made sure that was known. To her family and friends, she was Nana and proud of it.

Jan was born in Schenectady, New York, and grew up primarily in Sidney Center. She was a graduate from Franklin Central School and went on to work as a hairdresser and Salon manager of the Glemby Salon in Bresees, until its closing in 1994. She worked briefly at SUNY Oneonta, until she found her niche at NYCM Insurance, where she remained through retirement.

On March 30, 1996, Jan married John Harrison, whom she made known was "the love of her lifetime" and many more lifetimes. Their love was a profound part of Jan's life and the family they built together.

Jan's greatest joy was her family and especially being Nana. She was the Nana who showed up. She rarely missed a sporting event, color guard show, dance competition, school event, or celebration, always proudly supporting the people she loved.

A woman of strong faith, Jan loved the Lord. She was a country music lover, a true beach girl at heart, who was happiest near the water with a fishing pole in hand. She loved her coffee, ice cream piled high with whipped cream, scratch off tickets, bingo and crafting. She also loved bowling and spent many of those years with her husband bowling their nights away at Holiday Lanes. She played many years of softball with the Daily Star, and enjoyed the lawn sales in search of little treasures.

Most of all Jan loved all her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Oscar Howe and Sarah Wilson; her son, Richard "Richie" Sperry Jr.; and grandson, Isaiah Melvin.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, John Harrison, and siblings, Ronald (Cyndy) Howe, Kathleen (Chet) Carr, Lori (Dennis) Dunn, Rick (Lorrie) Howe, and Joanna (Rich) Lata, Larry Harrison; Mike (Norma) Harrison; mother-in-law, Thelma Harrison.

She is survived by her children, Ronda Banks, Cindy (Chuck) Lohmeyer, Mark Sperry, Bobbi-Jo Sperry, and Nadine Harrison; her grandchildren, Marcus (Keonna), Marissa (Aidan), Marina, Adrianna (Joseph), Grace, Christina, Brandon, Victoria, Chase, Olivia, Christopher II, and Marley; and her great-grandchildren, Eden (her Namesake), Kayson, Roran, Christopher III, and Eliyjah, along with many more dear family and friends who will cherish her memory.

Jan leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through every generation. She will be missed at family gatherings, sporting events, celebrations, phone calls, and in everyday moments when her presence is simply expected.

Though her family's hearts are broken, they find comfort knowing she is with the Lord, surrounded by the joy and peace she believed in so deeply. Her family will carry her love, laughter, and memory with them.

Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 24, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
