East Worcester
Jean Ester Handy, 70, passed away Thursday October 22, 2009 at the Otsego Manor.
She was born February 25, 1939 in Cherry Valley; the daughter of Lorenzo and Cora (Coger) Clapper.
Jean married John Coffin on the family farm in Cherry Valley. He predeceased her in 1968. In 1971, she married Richard Handy in East Worcester. He passed away August 16, 2006.
She was employed at Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill for 13 years, and then worked at Burger King in Cobleskill as an associate for several years.
Jean was a member of the East Worcester Fire Department Auxiliary.
Jean opened her arms and home to many family members and friends.
She was the loving mother of John Coffin Jr., Greg Coffin, Ted Handy and Matthew Handy; the beloved grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; she is survived by 4 brothers, David, Clark, Gordon and Raymond Clapper; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a bother, Claude Clapper and 4 sisters, Dorothy Gage, Mildred Gage, Alta Harrington and Golda Mae Coffin.
A memorial service will be held at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009 with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital officiating.
Interment will be made at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland, NY.
