ONEONTA – Jeane M. Swartwout, 60, of Oneonta, died November 1, 2012 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, following a long fight against cancer.
She was born September 3, 1952 in Niskayuna, NY the daughter of Donald and Melba Swartwout. Jeane graduated from Jordan-Elbridge High School near Syracuse in 1970 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Hartwick College in 1974. She was a volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She worked as a Register Nurse for the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown for 25 years.
She married Keith Bachman on November 19, 1988 in Milford, NY.
Jeane is survived by her husband, Keith; her children, Sonja, Collin and Bryan Bachman; her sister, Janice (Rick) Kiesznowski; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful and gentle cats, Jasper and James.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Jeane appreciated nature and enjoyed, among so many things, the arts, history and architecture. She traveled widely, but enjoyed most the comforts of home. Her wit and her humor were powers that brought joy and relief. She was the good friend, always hopeful and helpful; reaching out to touch lives and make them better.
Jeane truly loved her family and always worked hard for them. Throughout her life, she gave of herself to those in need. She fought bravely to survive a devastating illness for those she loved. Her love, her strengths and her kindness will be cherished and remembered always.
A private service for the family will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta. There will be no calling hours.
