Schenevus

Joan M. Carman, 92, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born on August 15, 1933 in Rockville Center, NY; the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Gerry) Carle.

Joan married David Carman on May 10, 1952 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport, NY. He predeceased her in 2019.

She moved to Schenevus from Freeport, NY in 1988.

Joan drove School Bus for the East Meadow School District and the Schenevus Central School.

She loved to knit, sew, read, cook and bake.

Joan was a member of the Schenevus Young at Heart, the Schenevus Valley Grange, and the Atonement Lutheran Church, Oneonta where she was an Altar Care Facilitator and sang in the choir for 32 years.

She is survived by her son James and his wife Nancy, her grandchildren, Jennifer, Timothy and John, her sister Ellen Dame and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her son Kenneth, her sister Virginia Owens and her brother-in-law, Arthur Carman.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street in Worcester with the Rev. Paul Messner, officiating.  A calling hour will be held from noon until the service time.

Burial will follow in the Schenevus Cemetery.
